Hat #58, Yellow & Black Stripes

I had some yarn left over from the Yellow and black Lyn's Round Ripple Afghan. I thought my Grand-daughter who absolutely loves anything yellow would enjoy a fun hat. I found a cute hat pattern in "100 Hats to knit and crochet by Jean Leinhauser and Rita Weiss"
Hat #58, Burgundy Stripes. I used a single strand of 100% acrylic Worsted Weight and an I Hook. The yarn was I Love This Yarn! from Hobby Lobby #30 Black and #330 Yellow. This pattern was quick, only a couple hours while I watched Court TV. I am going to see if I have enough yarn to make a matching scarf.

Diaper Cakes For Recent Showers

I love making these diaper cakes, you can pretty well spend as much as you like. And they all look so adorable. I actually find the stuffed animal I like first then buy everything to match. The musical "Jesus Loves Me" bear has most of it's goodies attached to the outside. While the Green trimmed elephant has all of it's goodies hidden in cavities left in diaper circle, ( There are like 40 some items inside). You simple roll appropriate sized toss-away diapers into cylinders and I rubberband. Use a new baby bottle as your center for the top layer. It sticks out from the diapers and allows you to wrap your stuffed animal around it, and rubber band the arms, or both the arms and legs.
When I make my next one I think I will have to take some pictures of the actual assembly, so the 3 tiered diaper cake makes it to the shower. Of course I use a clear basket Bag ( the kind you use the blow-dryer on) to finish off, rubber band the top and add a big bow.

I have see these covered with receiving blankets, but I haven't tried one yet. I have an up and coming wedding so I think I will try making one out of towels for one of Emily's showers.

Round Ripple For Lindsey

I have enjoyed seeing so many round ripples on the forums lately that I thought what a great Christmas project for the Grand kids. This is my first, made for Lindsey with her favorite colors. I hope they are still her favorite colors by Christmas. I was so worried that it would ripple even with alternating the added stitches at the points. I used Hobby Lobby's " I love this yarn! " in 5 skeins of Yellow and 5 skeins of Black, with a size G hook. Many people on the forum said this becomes mindless, but I still counted. Perhaps because it was my first.

I used Lyn's Round Ripple Afghan Pattern.

Big Book of Quick Knit Afghans #19

While building a Walmart in Tucson, Arizona in 105 degree weather with no air conditioning, I was stuck in the motel room. Luckily I had made a pit stop in Amarillo, Texas at this huge Hobby Lobby. Mostly I bought yarn that was on clearance, but I also found an intriguing book from Leisure Arts, Big Book of Quick Knit Afghans. I had grabbed a Size 17 circular needle and some luscious yarn. It was the House Brand, I Love This Yarn in #50 Cranberry.
A Close-up of the pattern, wonderfully soft with some texture. #19 Serene Caught my eye. It was fun and extremely easy. I think if I was going to start someone in knitting, I think this would be the perfect project, with instant gratification. I finally finished it this week, just before my Halloween mums went into the ground.
I used 8 Skeins of yarn, using double thread. I wish I had bought a couple extra skeins to make the afghan a little longer.
